If You Do Not Learn From History

In light of the state of this country, I offer commentary written over 200 years ago, by the fathers of this nation.

America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.
John Quincy Adams

Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide.
John Adams

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
Thomas Jefferson

I have the consolation of having added nothing to my private fortune during my public service, and of retiring with hands clean as they are empty.
Thomas Jefferson

It has been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.
Alexander Hamilton

I believe, and I say it is true Democratic feeling, that all the measures of the government are directed to the purpose of making the rich richer and the poor poorer.
William Henry Harrison
I have a sneaking suspicion that what we have become is not what was intended. In reading some of the transcripts of "our forefathers" leading us from the Articles of the Confederation, to the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, never intended us to enforce our democratic values on other countries against their will as had been done to us by the British Monarchy. They never intended that all citizens have the right to bear arms, and most never wanted a democratic state bur rather a democratic socialistic state. The wanted a government that takes care of it's people, and not put it's own affairs first.
Are we really living up to the standard put forth by those men?

"But democracy is great. Freedom is wonderful. Every body should participate in a free democracy, Whether they like it or not!

Besides, we are not a democracy. Democracy is the concepet where everyone votes/must vote on everything. Democracy is a bad plan. Ask Socrates. Oh wait, he's dead. See the Apology

We are a republic. If not for that fine distinction we would have suffered as did Brutus. Convinced that the death of Caeser was what was best for the people he killed his best friend. "Et Tu Brute?"

"But Brutus says he was ambitious. And Brutus is an honorable man" -Mark Antony

Thus the mob turned on Brutus. Thus is the plight of democracy.

Yes they did.

If only the militia should be able to bear arms, the Second Amendment should have said so. It does not! This simple and clearly worded amendment says:

'A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the militia to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.'

When a militia is called up, the people must be able to bear arms and to know how to use them. Our forefathers planned and spoke clearly. If the ''people'' were not to bear arms the amendment would have said:

''A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the militia to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.''

The Supreme Court addressed the topic in 1939 in the case of U.S. vs. Miller.

The court determined that the significance of the militia, was that it was composed of civilians primarily, soldiers on occasion. But in the end did very little to nail down a direct definition of the wording.

- As far as them intending for guns to be used in what they are today (Crimes, Thugs, Etc) I really doubt it, but if the government controls everything then might as well as be a socialized country / communist. We all know where that ends up. Little government > Big Government.
